John, another member and dedicated secretary of Dembe Farmers Group. His story is another beautiful reminder of how small credit loans can create big change in rural communities.
John was struggling to keep his children in school because he couldn’t afford their school fees. With exams approaching, he feared they might miss out until he heard about Cosma’s community credit loan program.
He applied and received a UGX 800,000 (about $229) loan, which he used to pay his children’s school fees and invest in four piglets. He also hired four casual laborers to help weed his maize and bean gardens, boosting his productivity.
John shared,
“My kids were soon going to sit for their end of school term exams, and I didn’t want them to miss out. With the loan I got from Cosma, I was able to pay their school fees and invest in farming. Today, I’ve paid off my loan, my income has grown, and I can better support my family.”
Today, John continues to expand his farming and sustain his family’s needs a true example of empowerment through opportunity.
